Starting Go Karting can be an exciting and enjoyable experience

Please see the 10-point guide below while we build this page! Or, watch the video from the Association of Karting Clubs

Here are the steps you can take to get started:

  1. Research and Learn:

    • Research local go-karting tracks and facilities in your area. Look for tracks that offer rental karts for beginners.
    • Learn about the different types of go karts available, their features, and the basics of karting.
  2. Find a Local Track:

    • Identify a go karting track near you that offers rental karts for beginners.  Check their website or contact them to learn about their services and availability.
  3. Check Requirements:

    • Check the age and height requirements to ensure you meet the criteria for karting at the track.
    • If required, bring identification or consent forms if you're a minor.
  4. Choose a Time:

    • Find out the track's operating hours and choose a time that works for you.
  5. Dress Appropriately:

    • Wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement.  Avoid loose items that could get caught in the kart.
    • Closed-toe shoes are essential for safety. Avoid wearing sandals or open-toe shoes.
  6. Safety Gear:

    • Most tracks provide safety gear such as helmets and sometimes racing suits.  If not, ask if you need to bring your own.
  7. Instructions and Briefing:

    • Listen carefully to the safety briefing and instructions provided by the track staff.  They will explain the basics of driving the kart, safety rules, and track etiquette.
  8. Driving Experience:

    • Once you're ready, you'll be given a kart to drive on the track.  Take your time to get comfortable with the kart's controls and how it handles.
  9. Start Slowly:

    • Begin at a moderate pace to familiarise yourself with the kart and the track layout.  As you gain confidence, you can gradually increase your speed.
  10. Follow Rules and Etiquette:

    • Observe track rules and etiquette.  Be respectful of other drivers, follow overtaking protocols, and be aware of your surroundings.
  11. Enjoy the Experience:

    • Go-karting is about having fun!  Enjoy the thrill of driving and the competitive spirit.
  12. Learn and Improve:

    • As you gain experience, you can work on improving your driving skills, learning optimal racing lines, and refining your technique.
  13. Consider Regular Participation:

    • If you find that you enjoy go-karting, you might consider participating more regularly.  Some tracks offer memberships or leagues for enthusiasts.

Remember that safety is paramount in go-karting.  Always follow the rules and guidelines provided by the track staff, and prioritise your safety and the safety of others while on the track.
